ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (March 13, 2017) – Rollins saw its NCAA Tournament run come to an end Monday, falling to West Florida 72-62 in the South Region Championship game.

The Tars end the year 22-8 while finishing runner-up in the Sunshine State Conference regular season and advancing to the Sweet 16 for the fourth time in school history.

Senior Marie Gilbert led the way for Rollins with 19 points, three rebounds and two assists. Julia Ingler tallied 15 points while Tanaya Jones recorded 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

Ingler and Gilbert were named to the NCAA South Region All-Tournament Team.

Shami Goodman led West Florida (28-6) with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting off the bench. Katie Bobos tallied 17 points and seven rebounds while Alex Coyne scored 14 points and handed out 11 rebounds. Tony Brewer scored 11 and pulled-down 18 rebounds.

West Florida advances to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight for the first time in program history.

HIGHLIGHTS AND QUARTER BY QUARTER ANALYSIS
First Quarter |
Rollins jumped on the Argos early, racing out to a 9-2 lead. The Tars led 12-5 with 3:56 left in the quarter before UWF rolled off an 11-0 run and took a 13-12 lead in the final minute. Jasmine Stone hit from deep with 43 seconds left to make the score 16-15, UWF after the first 10 minutes. All of the Tars points came from beyond the arc (5-of-6).  

Second Quarter |
The Tars regained the lead in the first few seconds of the second before the Argos went on a 12-2 spurt and put Rollins down 18-19 with 1:55 left in the frame. Tanaya Jones hit a layup with 40 seconds to go and Katie Bobos added a free throw to send Rollins to intermission trailing 29-21. Rollins scored just six points in the quarter and shot 1-of-14 from the field.  

Third Quarter |
Rollins shooting woes continued in the third and West Florida put Rollins down 49-31 with 2:26 left in the quarter. Vernisha Andrews and Carly McLendon scored buckets in the final seconds to pull the Tars to within 14 heading into the fourth.  

Fourth Quarter |
The gritty Tars fought back in the fourth and used an 8-0 run to close to within 53-48 at the 5:18 mark. After four-straight points from UWF, Rollins stayed close with a pair of three-pointers by Gilbert. Coyne then closed the door on the Tars with a solo 5-0 run and put the game out of reach for the Tars.
