LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (January 28, 2013) - In preparation for the upcoming season, the Rollins women's lacrosse team took the field Saturday against the Haudenosaunee National Team in exhibition action at the Champion Challenge, a US Lacrosse event, held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex.
The Haudenosaunee scored first in the matchup but the Tars answered back scoring the next several goals while controlling the tempo of the game. Rollins never looked back as they secured the halftime lead and cruised easily to a 21-12 victory over the Haudenosaunee.
"I am very happy with our overall performance, especially the effort from every player." said head coach Dennis Short. "We have been talking about maximizing the impact you have when you go into the game, whether it's 2 minutes or 10 minutes, and I think the team did a great job of that."
When asked about the team outlook on the upcoming season after the game, Coach Short went on to say, "The outlook is what it is every year - to work our hardest every day, to treat each other like a family, and to have fun. I saw all three of those things today so I definitely feel good about the season in front of us."
The Tars will wrap up their preseason with a scrimmage against Adelphi on February 15 at 7 p.m. at Barker Family Stadium. They then will kick off their regular season slate on February 18 as they take on Queens at 4 p.m. in Charlotte, N.C.
