Taylor Ferguson Signs Pro Contract with New Jersey Jackals
MONTCLAIR, N.J. (July 7, 2010) – Former Rollins centerfielder Taylor Ferguson has signed a contract with the New Jersey Jackals, it was announced on Independence Day. The Jackals play in the six-team, Single A independent Can-Am League.
Ferguson led the Tars offensively with a .379 batting average to finish fifth in the Sunshine State Conference. The Charlton, Mass., native led the SSC in doubles with 27 and in hits with 99, both single-season Rollins records. The senior made the best of his final season as he leaves Rollins as the all-time slugging percentage leader with a .657 mark.
In his pro debut against the Pittsfield Colonials, he went 0-of-4 and will look to get back into the swing of things as the season progresses.
Ferguson joins fellow Tars alums David Nathanson with the Pensacola Pelicans and Mike Reese with the Gary South Shore RailCats playing independent professional baseball.
Former Tar and current Cincinnati Reds catcher Ryan Hanigan saw action in 27 games, hitting .351 with six doubles, two homeruns and 17 RBIs before breaking his thumb and landing on the DL. He is currently on a rehab stint with the Triple A Louisville Bats.
