Quartet of Tars Named to NABC Honors Court
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (July 15, 2010) – Four Rollins men’s basketball players were honored for their work in the classroom, earning spots on the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court.
Graduate Ryan Ferranti and rising seniors Nikola Baran, Alex Castillo and Matt Robertson were each named Honors Court. In order to earn the award, an athlete must be a junior or senior and have carried at least a 3.20 GPA at the conclusion of the school year.
Ferranti was a three-year letterwinner for the Tars and enjoyed a successful senior season, averaging four points and nearly three rebounds a game. The Miami native was especially big down the stretch, averaging 7.2 points over the Tars’ final 10 games, including a team-best 13 in a NCAA Tournament, overtime victory over Alabama-Huntsville.
Baran started 19 games at center and averaged 8.1 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. The big-man shot 39 percent (52-134) from the 3-point line, including game-winning triples against second ranked Florida Southern in the regular season and Barry in the NCAA Tournament.
Castillo saw action in 13 games in his first season with the Tars after transferring from Warner University. He was key coming off the bench in the early season and will look for a big senior year in 2011.
Robertson started all 33 games at power forward and was the Tars third leading scorer with 7.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. The Alabama native was big in big games and led Rollins with 17 points against top-ranked Central Missouri. He was also a catalyst to the final play in Rollins’ postseason win over Barry, bringing the ball up the court, drawing in the defense and finding the open Baran for the game-winner.
