WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 13, 2012) - The last 12 NCAA Division II national champions have first started their quest to the title at the Sunshine State Conference Championship and Rollins is looking to be lucky number 13 at the latest edition of event, April 16-17.

Rollins is ranked fifth in the Division II GolfStat ranking and has four top-five finishes over a challenging 2011-12 schedule. The Tars face a nearly identical field to the SSC Tournament in October at the Nova Southeastern Shark Invitational. The Tars were third at the event, 16 shots back of winner NSU and two behind runner-up Florida Southern.

Rollins' spring season has been highlighted by a runner-up finish at the University of Richmond Spider Invitational in March. Freshman Kayla Sciupider led the way for the Tars, finishing second with an 11-over par 227.

Senior Fabia Rothenfluh leads the Tars on the season with a 76.57 stroke average. She has five top-10 finishes, including a tie for ninth at Richmond. Her low round of 72 came in the first event of the season, at the Western Carolina Great Smokies Collegiate.

Sciupider has made a huge impact in her first season of collegiate golf and holds a 77.66 stroke average. Prior to the Spider Intercollegiate, she had previous career bests of 20th at the NSU Shark and Princeton Invitationals.

The 2012 SSC Tournament will be held at The Concession in Bradenton, Fla. and is being hosted by Tampa. Five teams are ranked in the NGCA top-10. Three-time defending national champion Nova Southeastern is No. 1 with Florida Southern sitting No. 2. Lynn is No. 4, Barry No. 6 and Saint Leo No. 9.

Rollins has won the SSC title a record seven times, most recently in 2009. NSU has taken each of the last two titles and own three in its history. Florida Southern has also captured a trio of championships.

The course derives its name from an historic interaction between course designers, Jack Nicklaus and Tony Jacklin.  On the final hole of the 1969 Ryder Cup Match at Royal Birkdale in England, Nicklaus stunned the golf world by conceding a two-foot putt to Jacklin for the first of only two ties in Ryder Cup history. Today, that gesture is considered one of the finest acts of sportsmanship in golf history and has inspired one of America's great golf clubs, The Concession.

The Concession is an 18-hole, par 72 course that totals 7,474 yards and runs three miles from tip to tip.  Upon its completion, it was named "Best New Private Course" in 2006 by Golf Digest.  In 2011-12, that same publication ranked it the fourth-best course in the state of Florida.
