Release: 04/24/2012

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (April 23, 2012) - After earning a slot in Sunday's grand final of the 2012 SIRA Regatta Championships, the Rollins women's novice 4 finished fourth overall but second in the open event in which they were entered.

Sunday's race was structured differently in that they competed with the novice 4 group but were registered in the open event that landed them a silver medal with a time of 8:10.06.  Rollins (Cox Kali DeBerry, Kelsey Gunderson, Haddie DeHart, Alexia George, Mary-Ellen Garner) was narrowly edged out by Purdue for third (8:07.21).

The top two crews in the race opened up an early lead as the Tars battled it out for third.  The ladies had a half boat lead for third until the last 600m.  The boiler markers proved too much for the Tars as they crept away and took third by three seconds.

The finish was huge for Rollins' novice 4 who did not make it out of their heats the weekend before.  With the time registered, the novice 4 earned a ticket to the Dad Vail Championships held in Philadelphia, Pa. on May 11.
