PACE, Fla. (May 7, 2012) - Freshman Kayla Sciupider hung a second round, two-under 70 and is tied for fifth to lead the Rollins women's golf team at the NCAA Division II Super Region Championship.
The Tars were four-shots better in round two, shooting a 308, to sit sixth with 620 strokes. Florida Southern leads the field with a score of 598 (302-296) with Barry (605) and Nova Southeastern (608) rounding out the top-three.
The top three teams along with the top three individuals not with a team from each super regional will advance to the NCAA Division II National Championship in Louisville.
Sciupider opened play with a 77 Sunday and vaulted 12 spots up the leaderboard after the career round Monday. She birdied the first two holes and added another on the fourth to go three under right out of the gate. She bogeyed No. 6, but got the stroke back with a birdie two on the next hole. Sciupider then bogeyed No. 8 and hit the turn two-under. On the back, she bogeyed No. 15, but came back with a birdie on 16.
Sciupider (77-70-147) is six shots out of first, held by Lillana Casima of Nova Southeastern. She posted the only score better than Sciupider (67) and has 141 strokes on the weekend.
Fabia Rothenfluh shot 76 Sunday and 78 Monday and is tied for 17th with a score of 154. Clara Teixeira (78-81) is tied for 33rdwith 159 strokes while Elin Marcsdottir (83-79) totals 162 strokes and is tied for 41st. Kristen Garabedian is a shot back in a tie for 44th (81-82-163).
