WINTER PARK, Fla. (May 18,2012)- After completing a successful 2012 campaign the Rollins women's lacrosse team has started to tally accolades for their achievements, as the IWLCA All-Region Teams were announced on Friday afternoon. The Tars placed six players with five players earning first team nods. Katie Palasz, Courtney Bianculli, Elyse De Lisle, Erica Pagliarulo and Sophie Townsend headlined All-Region First Team with Cat Kelley garnering second team honors.

The defense for the Tars was strong all season due to the tremendous talent and skill on the defensive side of the ball as the trio of De Lisle, Palasz and Bianculli stifled the most explosive offensive attacks. Rollins posted the fourth best scoring defense in Division II with the Blue and Gold holding opponents to an average of 7.94 goals per game. Palasz and Bianculli were responsible for being the catalyst to the offense with the duo notching a combined 10 goals and five assists. Meanwhile, in the cage De Lisle ranked fifth in the country in goals against average and 50th in saves per game. The tough defense wore out opponents and caused the offense to have tremendous opportunities to score.

Offensively, the Tars used a host of different players to put pressure on opposing defenses and used the skills of Townsend, Pagliarulo and Kelley to put goals in the back of the cage. Pagliarulo led the team with 46 goals on the season and ranked 45th in Division II in goals per game. Townsend also added to the offensive firepower tallying 40 goals and five assists. Kelley added a third dimension to the attack and also posted 38 goals and a team-high 16 assists. Rollins was strong as a team with the Tars leading the nation in scoring with 18.38 goals per game and finished with a 10.44 scoring margin.

The IWLCA has honored 64 student-athletes in Division II with a selection on one of the All-Regional teams for 2012. These athletes are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams, which will be announced on May 24. The IWLCA will honor the National All-Americans at the IWLCA All-American banquet on June 16, 2012 at the Radisson Hotel Valley Forge in King of Prussia, Pa.
