WINTER PARK, Fla. (June 20, 2012) - Participants in each of the last three NCAA Division II Tournaments, the Rollins men's soccer team now has the road map to capture its fourth-straight bid as head coach Dr. Keith Buckley announced the Tars 2012 slate.
Rollins was 15-4 a year ago, winning the Sunshine State Conference Tournament and hosting the NCAA South Region Tournament for the third year in a row.
Rollins gets things started with a pair of exhibition games in late August. The Tars travel to Jacksonville to face North Florida on August 18, followed by a home tune-up against Webber International on August 24 at 7 p.m.
A home date with Embry-Riddle on August 31 starts the regular season and a stretch of four non-conference match-ups. They then travel to Flagler for a Labor Day (Sept. 3) against the reigning Peach Belt Conference Champions. Rollins' bi-annual trip to Pensacola covers the first weekend of September where the Tars face West Florida on Sept. 7 and Young Harris College on Sept. 9.
The Tars then delve into Sunshine State Conference play and its new format for the 2012 season. This year, each team meets all SSC opponents once, and then faces four teams for a second time. In year's past, everyone played each other one time during the regular season.
A date with Eckerd starts things off on Sept. 10, followed by road games at Lynn (Sept. 15) and Florida Southern (Sept. 19). The Tars are back at home against Florida Tech on Sept. 26 before traveling to Tampa on Sept. 29.
October starts with a second match-up against Tampa, this time in Winter Park on Oct. 10. Another home game follows and completes the first run through the SSC as Saint Leo visits on Oct. 13.
Rollins' next three are on the road, at Eckerd on Oct. 17 and at Nova Southeastern on Oct. 20. They then step out of Sunshine State Conference play and travel to Palm Beach Atlantic on Oct. 23.
The regular season finale and senior day is slated for Oct. 27 against Florida Southern.
The Tars will look to make it two in a row as the Florida Blue Sunshine State Conference Tournament kicks off on campus sites Oct. 30 with the semifinals and final being held Nov. 2-4 at the home of the SSC regular season champion.
NCAA postseason play starts Nov. 8-11 and leads to the 2012 NCAA Division II National Championship match on Saturday, December 1 at Evans, Ga.
Fans can follow the Tars all season long with live streaming video, live audio and live stats on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com.
