WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 6, 2012) - Lending a hand to those in need, the Rollins men's lacrosse team teamed up with the Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital and recently served dinner to the in-patient children receiving treatments.
The Tars showed up at 4:30 p.m. and put together the evening's dinner, donated by Four Rivers. Each child and their family received a plate prepared by the team.
"Getting out in the community is something that is very important to our program. We are beginning an initiative to spend more time in the local community by supporting these children and their families," said head men's lacrosse coach RJ Rossi. "It's great exposure for the Rollins community to get out there in such a venue and we plan on continued visits throughout the year."
The service, which is part of the BASE Camp Children's Cancer Foundation, provides a year-round base support for children and their families who are facing the challenge of living with cancer and other life-threatening hematological illnesses.
When asked about the team's experience Friday evening, Rossi added "We had a very positive outcome from this experience. When you see children in those situations, it changes everybody's perspectives on everything; it had a long lasting effort for sure. We plan on making sure that each player makes at least one appearance throughout the year."
The Tars will pair up with the Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital multiple times this fall.
