CHARLESTON, S.C. (September 9, 2012) - The Rollins sailing team, comprised of a majority of new faces, began a new year by competing at the South Atlantic Interscholastic Sailing Association (SAISA) Open over the weekend. The Tars finished 11th overall in the two-day event.

A total of eighteen teams competed in the SAISA two divisions. The College of Charleston accommodated the two divisions with fleets of 18 Flying Junior's and 18 420's.

Sailing for the Tars in A fleet were Blake Pierce, Cass Yankala, and Nina Houston.  Sailing in B fleet over the weekend for Rollins was Ben Getchell, Chad Murray, and Alexis Ryan

Conditions on Saturday ranged from 8 to 16 knots with the Tars sitting in 14th place overall after day one.

Sunday brought a slight change in velocity, 6 to 10 knots, and location in the harbor.  The teams worked with an ebb tide and sea breeze.  B fleet skipper, freshman Ben Getchell, put his finishes in single digits on Sunday and brought the Tars to an overall 11th place in the open, fifth in the south points division.

The Tars will next sail at South Points #2 on their home waters of Lake Virginia on Sat. 15.
