WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 1, 2012) - After notching a pair shutouts last week, sophomore keeper Mary Spring was named the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week presented by VALIC, it was announced on Monday.
Playing behind a stout defensive line, Spring recorded a pair of 1-0 conference shutouts over Florida Tech and 14th ranked Tampa.
Spring made one save to preserve in the home victory over the Panthers last Wednesday. She then made a pair of saves to help lift the Tars to their first win at Tampa since 2008.
"Mary's goal keeping performances have improved week after week," head coach Alicia Milyak Schuck stated.
"Her confidence will continue to grow, especially after being recognized in the conference as the Player of the Week."
Rollins (5-4-0, 2-1-0) now sits alone in fourth in the SSC, one point behind Eckerd.
