MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (October 6, 2012) - Behind a second half offensive explosion, the Tars (6-3-2, 2-2-1) defeated the Barry Buccaneers handily Saturday evening, 5-0.
Both teams went scoreless for nearly 43 minutes to open the match before freshman Brett Durrance deflected a well placed cross from Phillip Shehan into the back of the net to begin the onslaught.
15 minutes later, Philipp Schad recorded his second goal of the year to open a span of 27 minutes where Rollins scored four goals.
The play started when Grant Blackhurst received a throw in from Skyler Russell. Blackhurst controlled it through two defenders, found Schad who took care of the rest, smashing it near post.
"Exactly what we worked on in practice yesterday," Tars assistant coach Chris Cummings explained after the game.
Sophomore Evan Greenbaum added the third Rollins goal six minutes later. The Tars earned a free kick in their offensive third after a Bucs foul. Danny Salazar lined up to serve in the free kick and found Greenbaum who headed it in far post.
Joe Crowley and Tucker Hume added goals in the 82nd and 84th minutes respectively to put the game out of reach once and for all.
Keneil Baker recorded his fifth shutout of the season, registering five saves in 90 minutes.
The Tars will be back in action Wednesday, Oct. 10th when they host Tampa. Fans can follow along with all the action live on the Tars Sports Network on RollinsSports.com.
