WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 9, 2012) - Every fall, volleyball teams across the country join together and participate in the Dig Pink National Breast Cancer Awareness Rally. The Tars will do their part on Tuesday, Oct. 23 when they take on the Armstrong Atlantic State University Pirates at 6 p.m.
Dig Pink and the Side-Out Foundation unites volleyball players and coaches to have them work together towards the common goal of furthering breast cancer awareness, research, education and patient services. Since 2004, volleyball teams across the country have raised over $5 million for cancer research.
The Tars will begin collecting donations prior to the start of Tuesday's contest and will run until the end of the first set of the match. Fans can either give a set donation or per dig recorded (i.e. 25 cents per dig x 60 digs recorded = $15).
Fans are encouraged to wear pink in honor of those who have been affected by cancer.
All proceeds will benefit The Side-Out Foundation, a national 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, which in turn awards grants to medical research organizations and entities dedicated to providing compassionate support to breast cancer patients and their families.
