WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 16, 2012) - The Rollins volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 22-25, 23-25) decision to the Flagler Saints Tuesday night at Warden Arena in non-conference action.
Rollins falls to 11-9 on the season while Flagler improves to 15-6 overall and extend their win streak to nine consecutive matches.
The Tars were led by Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Week Megan Hodges as she registered 18 kills, to go along with eight digs and a pair of aces. Kelly Merideth tied her season-high 12 kills while posting her second straight double-double with 14 digs.
Freshman's April Jackson and MaryEllen Pole continue to share the floor as Jackson tallied 26 assists and Pole 22. Collyn Welsch was well on her way to break the 30-dig mark but suffered an injury at the end of the third set and closed out the match with 25 digs.
The Tars, who started off the match with a 25-22 win in the first set, were unable to bounce back dropping the remaining sets. Rollins battled in the second and third sets as they combined for 22 ties and eight lead changes.
After Rollins tied the score at 16-all in the second frame on a kill from Merideth, Flagler went on a 5-1 run to lead 21-17. The Tars were unable to make up the deficit, dropping the second frame 25-23.
In the third set, the final tie came at the 21-all mark on a kill by Hodges, but the Saints closed out the set on a 4-1 run. In the final frame of play, the Tars were one point back of the Saints, 24-23, on a defensive miscue by FC but a kill from Sophie Meyer closed the door on the Tars.
The Saints were led by Emilee Taylor with 17 kills and nine digs while Meyer added 11 kills.
Rollins will continue with their non-conference stretch as they head to Tampa for the 2012 Red Elephant Café South Region Crossover hosted by the University of Tampa on Oct. 19-20. Fans can catch all the action live on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com.
