TAMPA, Fla. (October 19, 2012) - The Rollins volleyball team wrapped up the first day of the 2012 Red Elephant Café South Region Crossover with a 3-1 (25-16, 19-25, 25-17, 25-19) victory over the West Georgia Wolves. Rollins now improves to 13-9 on the season.
Four of the starting six recorded double-figure kills with Camille Indest posting 21 kills with a .548 hitting percentage, to go along with four digs. Kelly Merideth and Jessica Wilson each registered 13 kills while Megan Hodges added 10.
April Jackson posted her second straight match with 50 assists, to go with two service aces and five digs. Christina Carracino added 22 digs.
The Tars started the first set right where they left off as they took the opening frame 25-16. Rollins never gave up a lead and pulled away from the Wolves on back-to-back kills from Merideth. The Tars closed out the set on a 5-0 run with three of those points coming from Megan Hodges aces. She finished the match with seven total service aces.
West Georgia evened the match at one apiece in the second taking the second set 25-19. The score tied on 11 occasions with the final tie coming at 11-all on another kill from Merideth. UWG scored the next point and never looked back.
In the third and fourth sets, Rollins remained aggressive keeping the Wolves at bay. The Tars began the third set on a 5-0 run and sealed the win on kills from Indest, Wilson and Hodges, respectively. Hodges and Wilson again secured the win for the Tars in the fourth set.
The Wolves were led by Helen Menchinger and Emily Reul with 12 and 11 kills respectively.
Rollins will wrap up the 2012 Red Elephant Café South Region Crossover on Saturday, Oct. 20 when they face the No. 22 West Florida Argos. Match time is set for 1:15 p.m. Fans can follow live on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com.
