WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 27, 2012) - Ashley Jones hit five 3-pointers and led five Tars in doubles figures on Saturday as Rollins opened up the season with a 76-65 exhibition win over Ave Maria.
Jones was 6-of-11 from the field and 5-of-8 from long range, netting a team-high 17 points. Emmalee Schill chipped in 11 points and nine rebounds while Tera McDaniel added 11 points and four steals. Sarah Blackburn and Ashley Losch each scored 10.
Cassie Kreiger paced the Gyrenes with a game-high 19 points with Emily Huber adding 16 points and nine rebounds.
The Tars shot 44 percent (29-66) from the field, including a 14-for-28 second half. AMU hit 39 percent (25-63) and hit 13-of-28 from 3-point range.
Rollins outrebounded its visitor 42-39 and forced 21 turnovers while committing just 12.
The Tars will complete the exhibition season on Wednesday, Oct. 31 at home against the Chilean National Team. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
Picked to repeat as champions of the Sunshine State Conference, Rollins' regular season starts Nov. 9-10 at the Florida Tech Tipoff Classic.
