Rollins Tops Saint Leo in Conference Opener

WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 27, 2012) - Behind seven individual wins and a relay victory, the Rollins women's swim team picked up a season opening win over Saint Leo Saturday, 139-123.

Newcomer Audrey Kula won three individual events and a relay as Tars (1-0) started the Sunshine State Conference season with a bang.

Kula took the 200-yard butterfly in 2:11.86 and won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.00. She also took a win in the 100-yard freestyle, posting a time of 54.54. Rollins scored 16 points in the event with Jenny Nilson coming in second (56.39) and Jesica Spiegel (56.54) taking third.

Kula later teamed with Nilson, Maddie Minetree and Chandler Armistead to win the 800-yard freestyle in 8:11.48.

Alexander took the 1000-yard freestyle in 11:07.62 and came back with a winning time of 5:28.87 in the 500-yard freestyle.

Rollins also scored big points in the 200-yard freestyle, sweeping the top-three spots. Nilson won in a time of 2:00.37, Minetree was second in 2:02.98 and Armistead took third with a time of 2:03.31.

Rocio Henriquez won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.53 and Minetree was second in 26.10.

Rollins will be back in the pool Saturday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m., hosting Nova Southeastern.
