ORLANDO, Fla. (October 28, 2012) - Some of the top teams in Division II will come together on the links of Rio Pinar Country Club as they compete in the 2012 McDonough Cup, hosted by Rollins College and the No. 15 Tars. The 54-hole event will take place on Oct. 29-30 with 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday.
Eighteen schools will represent the newly-named McDonough Cup, including eight Sunshine State Conference schools. Monday's field will consist of Georgia College, Queens University, Columbus State, Carson-Newman, Armstrong Atlantic, Eckerd, Barry, Florida Southern, Valdosta State, Florida Tech, Lynn, Nova Southeastern, UNC-Pembroke, Mount Olive College, Tampa, Flagler, Catawba and host-Rollins
Of those, eight are ranked in the Top-25 with No. 1 NSU, No. 2 Barry, No. 7 Columbus State, No. 9 Armstrong Atlantic, No. 12 FSC, No. 15 Rollins and No. 16 Georgia College.
The 15th-ranked Tars have finished runners up the past two years in the event. In last year's edition, the Tars tied with Carson-Newman while Newberry took the tournament title. Former Tar Spencer Cole won individual medalist honors as he shot a 5-under-par 211. In 2010, Rollins was second to Lynn.
Rollins is coming off an impressive second-place showing at the TVA Credit Union Invitational hosted by the University of North Alabama. Scott Lamb led the Tars as he finished first with a 10-under-par 206.
