WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 29, 2012) - This past Saturday the Rollins men's and women's soccer teams celebrated senior day. A total of four seniors were honored, three on the women's team and one on the men's.
The women's team will say goodbye to a trio of seniors at seasons end: Whitney Rohrer, Anita Cox and Ali Schrader. Each has been an enormous contributor in building Rollins women's soccer into the successful program it is today.
"I'm appreciative of our senior leadership because it has been a catalyst this season," Head Coach Alicia Milyak Schuck remarked.
"Ali, Whitney and Anita have been outstanding with their performances on the field. They set high expectations of themselves and their teammates and this has aided in our teams progress throughout the season."
She went on to say, "Whitney is a great leader that has always put the team first while developing her own style of play. She's matured over her four years from a left back to a center back and this year has been her best year yet in a Rollins uniform. Ali is very talented, very creative player. She's a teammate that the girls want to be around, because of her great personality. For four years she really helped the team in the attack. Lastly, Anita has brought an edge to Rollins soccer during her three years here. She's tough, physical, and a very smart defender. Her organization and presence in the back line is some of the best in Division II."
On the men's side, the Tars will bid farewell to arguably the most successful player in Rollins history, Daniel Salazar. He has amassed an overall record of 58-14-6 in his four years, including a trip to the national finals in 2010. He has logged over 4,200 minutes in the midfield, recording 3 goals and 10 assists.
"Danny Salazar embodies everything that is right about college athletics," said Tars Head Coach Dr. Keith Buckley.
"He has developed into one of top players in the country at his position. He leads the team by example and is a very successful student. He will leave Rollins with a legacy of excellence, commitment and leadership. He is the most successful player in Rollins College history, winning a conference championship, a conference tournament championship, a regional championship, has been a national finalist and part of a team that was once ranked number one in the nation. His character and work ethic will be impossible to replace."
Both teams now head into postseason play. Be sure to check RollinsSports.com for this week's schedule as both teams will begin their conference tournaments.
