Rollins will wrap up its regular season, as well as Sunshine State Conference play, with a trip to rival Tampa. The Tars are coming off a 2-1 series win against SSC provisional member Palm Beach Atlantic. Rollins took the first game, 5-4 before dropping game two, 6-0. Another 5-4 victory in favor of the Tars in the final game, gave them the pivotal 2-1 series win. Tampa picked up a 2-1 series victory over the Eckerd College Tritons last weekend, taking the first two games and dropping the last one 11-5 against the Tritons.
TRACKING THE TARS:
Rollins is hitting .286 as a team in their 47 games this season, while combining for a .426 slugging percentage. The Tars will be depending on a group of hard swinging veterans heading into the final series of the season. Peter Nicoletto is batting .351 on the year, and leads the SSC in triples this season, with nine. Mike Purcell has started all 47 games for the Tars this season at first base, batting .323, and is second on the team with 63 hits.
Brad Case, AJ Chacon, and Brian Auerbach have formed a solid starting rotation for Rollins. Case leads the trio with a 3.51 ERA, while Chacon has tallied a 6-2 record on the year. Caleb Jakes is 4-1 with a 2.45 ERA, making 20 appearances. Whit Drennan has maintained a sub 2.00 ERA with 19 total appearances including 16 relief appearances.
TRACKING THE SPARTANS:
The Spartans will try to counter the Tars with their high-powered potent offense, led by J.D. Osborne who is second in the nation with 75 RBI, and is batting .381. Kevin Santa leads the Spartans with a .417 average, to go along with 78 hits, and 35 RBI. Darren Miller is second on the team with 12 home runs, and a .396 batting average.
Tampa brings an experienced bullpen into the series against the Tars. Junior David Lebron has made 13 appearances on the year to go along with a perfect 7-0 record in 77.1 innings pitched and 80 strikeouts. Christian Calleja has made 14 appearances on the hill for the Spartans, pitching 67.1 innings and tallying four wins. Leading the team with five saves on the year is freshman Colton Widdows, with five.
· Rollins trails the all-time series against the Spartans, 103-29-1.
· The Tars fell in two out of three contests against the Spartans last year, falling in games one and two before salvaging a win in game three, 5-3.
· Rollins is 7-7 on the road this season.
· Peter Nicoletto is on an eleven game hit streak, and needs just one more triple to take over sole possession of the SSC career record.
The series against Tampa will conclude the Tars 2017 season.
