MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. (May 10, 2017) – The Tars finished strong at the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Championship, taking 19th place.

Rollins put themselves in a hole after a tough 321 first round, but rebounded with a 295 Tuesday and closing score of 303 Wednesday.

Sam Grindle was the big mover on the final day, climbing 28 spots into a tie for 38th with a six-over score of 222. He came into the day with rounds of 81-71 before handing in a two-under 70 on the final day. Grindle was one over at the turn and then transformed into a birdie machine on the back, posting four red numbers to get to two-under for the round.

Barry Babbitt tied for 60th for the Tars, turning in scores of 76-72-77 for a nine-over 225. He was consistent in the final round with 13 pars and five bogeys.

Senior Jakob Van De Flierdt finished his standout college career in a tie for 92nd, posting an 18-over score of 234 strokes. He turned in rounds of 80-74-80, highlighted by an exciting birdie on the par-five 17th.

Will Hall tied for 105th place, shooting scores of 84-78-81 for a 270-over 243. Collin Engelhardt finished 107th a stroke back of Hall with rounds of 88-80-76.


 

Day 2 Recap

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. (May 9, 2017) – Rollins posted a seven-over 295 and jumped one spot to 19th after day two of the NCAA Division II South/SE Region Tournament.

The 15th-ranked Tars rebounded from a tough first round to record one of the best scores of the day. Rollins now has a 46-over score of 616 and surpassed Albany State in the standings.

Top-ranked West Florida put some distance on themselves and the field with a nine-under 297 Tuesday and paces the field with an 11-under score of 565. Lynn (-3) is second and Florida Southern third at even par.

Barry Babbitt vaulted 22 spots up the leaderboard with an even-par 72 in round two and is tied for 36th with 148 strokes. He was one-over at the turn and traded a bogey for two birdies on the back to get back to even.

Sam Grindle also made a big leap, posting a one-under 71 to grab a tie for 67th with 152 strokes. He posted a birdie on No. 4, but gave the stroke back with a bogey on No. 7. Grindle then played the back at one-under to get into the red numbers for the day.

Jakob Van De Flierdt shot a round of 74 on Tuesday and is tied or 75th with 154 strokes. Will Hall is tied for 103rd with rounds of 84-78 (+18) and Collin Engelhardt is 108th with scores of 88-80.

The South/SE Regional will conclude with a final round on Wednesday, May 10 at RTG at the Shoals Course in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Fans can follow the action live on GolfStat.com.


 

Day 1 Recap

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. (May 8, 2017) – Rollins struggled through the first round of the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional Monday, sitting 20th after the first 18 holes.

The 15th-ranked Tars turned in a 33-over score of 321 to start the event, held at Robert Trent Jones at the Shoals in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Lynn leads the way with a four-under 284 while West Florida is second after a round of 286.

Barry Babbitt leads the Tars, sitting tied for 58th after a four-over round of 76. Starting on the back, he played the first nine-holes two over, finishing with a birdie two on 18. Babbitt also birdied No. 2 to get to two-under before bogeys on two of the last four holes.

Senior Jakob Van De Flierdt shot an eight-over 80 and is tied for 93rd. Sam Grindle is a shot back after an 81 to sit tied for 97th while Will Hall's 12-over 84 puts him alone in 105th. Collin Engelhardt is tied for 107th after an 88 round one score.
