Sophomore Becomes First in Program History to Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District™ Honors

WINTER PARK, Fla. (May 11, 2017) – After a standout sophomore campaign both on the field and in the classroom, Greg Taicher has been named to the 2016-17 Academic All-District™ Men's At-Large Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), organization officials announced Thursday.

This marks the first time in program history that a men's lacrosse player has earned CoSIDA Academic All-District™ honors.  With the selection to the All-District squad, Taicher will now advance into the pool eligible for consideration for the CoSIDA Academic All-America team, to be announced later this month.

Taicher gets the nod after a stellar season that saw him set new program records for points and goals in a season, as well as finish sixth in program record books for assists in a season.  The First Team All-Sunshine State Conference selection racked up a team best 37 goals and 14 assists for 51 points on the year, while adding 31 ground balls and five caused turnovers.  His 31 ground balls were good for a team third best.

Hard working and dedicated both on the field and in the classroom, Taicher has been named to the Rollins Athletic Director's Honor Roll three times, as well as Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll after his freshman season.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information representative.

The Academic All-District™ teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.  This is the fifth year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored.  The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
