(PORTSMOUTH, VA)- Rollins Senior Barry Babbitt captured the 61st Annual Eastern Amateur Golf Tournament this past weekend at the Elizabeth Manor Country Club. The Eastern Amateur is a 72-hole stroke play event that features some of the best talent in amateur golf.

Babbitt was able to secure the trophy finishing with a 65 on the final day, and 16-under par for the tournament. Babbitt went head to head against some of the best Amateur's on the east coast, and credited his success to sticking to his game plan, as well as his driver, which he had been consistently hitting well.

On the final day, Babbitt carded six birdies and just one bogey, including a birdie on the 13th to give him a two-shot lead. He would secure the victory by shooting an even par on the final five holes, to take the victory to the clubhouse.

The Orlando native joins a select group of winners, some who have gone on to win PGA tour events.
