WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 31, 2012)- The 17th ranked Tars left no doubt Saturday afternoon, putting up a total of 24 runs in a pair of shutout wins to secure the three game series sweep of the Tritons of Eckerd College. Rollins took game one 10-0 behind 11 hits, four for extra bases, and nailed down the sweep with a 14-0 win in game two behind 13 hits.

In game one's run rule, the Tars scored in every inning they came to the plate, never taking their foot off the gas.

Rollins plated three in the first, one in the second, three in the third, and three more in the fourth. The Tars wouldn't need any more chances, securing the win in a run rule after just 4.5 innings.

Six different players for Rollins registered at least one RBI in game one, highlighted by senior Meredith Foster's performance; as she went 2-3, including a three run home run, to go along with three RBI and a run scored. The home run was Foster's fourth on the year, putting in her a four way tie for the team lead with fellow seniors Hope Bitzer, Monica Meadows, and Lawna Hunter.

Bitzer (15-3) started in the circle for the Tars and picked up the win, going five innings while giving up no runs on three hits while striking out nine.

Brittany Mitchell (1-5) took the loss for the Tritons, giving up ten runs on 11 hits in just four innings of work.

Game two was much of the same story as Rollins scored in three of their four at-bats, including innings of six runs and seven runs, to secure the sweep in dominating fashion.

After the Tars hung six runs on Eckerd in the first, five off of Tritons' starter Logan Rohrbach, it was all but over as Rollins' game two starter Amye McIntyre seem to be locked in from the get-go.

The Tars came back after an hour rain delay to score one more in the second, thanks to a Bitzer RBI ground out, to extend the lead to 7-0.

Rollins came up empty in the third, their first scoreless inning of the afternoon, but regained form in the fourth, scoring seven runs on seven hits. Biggest hit came courtesy of reigning SSC Freshman of the Year Veronica Alred, as Alred sent a fly ball well over the wall in left with the bases loaded for the grand slam and a perfect exclamation point on the afternoon.

McIntyre (9-3) went the distance to earn her ninth win of the year, going five innings with giving up no runs on just one hit. McIntyre also struck out ten.

Six Tars registered multi-hit games with Alred going 2-4 with two runs scored to go along with her four runs batted in.

Rollins will be back in action Thursday, April 5 when they welcome the Barry Buccaneers to Winter Park for game one of a three game set. First pitch is set for 7 pm.  Fans can follow all the action live on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com.
