WINTER PARK, Fla. (May 8, 2012) - A total of 28 student-athletes have been named to the 2012 Daktronics All-South Region First and Second Teams, it was announced Tuesday, with three Tars honored for their contributions in leading Rollins to it's most successful season in program history.
Senior outfielder Monica Meadows was named to the south region first team squad with junior first baseman Aimee Halpin and senior pitcher Hope Bitzer earning second team nods.
Meadows adds her first team achievement to her laundry list of accolades she has already racked up in her senior campaign. She has already been named to first team All-SSC as well as SSC Player of the Year in 2012. The Daphne, Ala. native finished the season batting a team best .419 with 10 homeruns, 25 doubles and 48 runs driven in, all of which are also team bests. She also leaves Rollins with the career record for hits (259) and doubles (62).
In her first season with the Tars, Halpin has also continues to rack up post season honors, also being named to the All-SSC First team. She finished with a .411 batting average, good for second best behind Meadows, with 20 doubles and 72 runs scored. The Orlando, Fla. native also had 35 stolen bases in 41 attempts.
Bitzer, in just her second season with Rollins, adds her second team honor to her already long list of post season accolades. The 2011 SSC and South Region Pitcher of the Year finished the 2012 season with a 22-7 record and a 1.17 ERA. She pitched every inning for the Tars in a regional final double header against top-seed Valdosta State where gave up just one run in 13.0 innings pitched while striking out 17.
