DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (September 16, 2012) - Rollins started its fall season over the weekend at the four-team Embry-Riddle Open.
In the Gold Flight, Malte Christensen posted a record of 2-1 while Ari Davis was 0-2. Christensen beat Juan Varon of Bethune-Cookman 6-3, 6-2 in the first round, but fell to Embry-Riddle's Patrick Besch 6-3, 6-4 on the second day. Sunday, the sophomore beat Leonardo Lima 6-1, 6-1. Davis lost to Florida Southern's Benoit Paradis 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 on day one and dropped a 7-6(2), 6-0 decision to Lima on Saturday.
Adrian DiFelice played in the Blue Flight for the Tars, falling to FSC's Jorge Gutierrez 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 on the first day and lost to Bethune's Seve Day 6-1, 7-6(5) on Saturday.
Rollins was represented in the White Flight by the trio of Henning Ander, Cooper Maxwell and Keegan Burger. Ander fell to FSC's Vladimir Barabash 6-2, 6-2, but came back with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Embry-Riddle's Kevin Chaouat and 6-0, 6-1 victory against Jorden Aikens. Maxwell took a 6-0, 6-2 win over Aikens to open, lost to Barabash 6-0, 6-4 on Saturday and beat Florida Southern's Austin Commings 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Sunday. Burger won over Chaouat 6-2, 6-2, lost to FSC's Robbie Palmiotto 6-2, 7-6(5) and fell to Barabash 6-4, 6-0 to close.
Jeff Corwin was in the Eagle Flight, dropping matches to Commings of FSC 7-5, 6-1 and Jose Suger of ERAU 0-6, 6-3, 6-4.
In doubles play, the Tars were only able to score one victory in the Blue Flight. Christensen and DiFelice beat Freeman and Leonik of ERAU 8-3 and later fell to Paradis and Leuber of FSC 8-3. Davis joined Jason Alabaster and the duo lost to Day and Varon of Bethune 8-5 and lost an 8-4 decision to Leavitt and Gutierrez of FSC 8-4.
In Gold Flight doubles, Burger and Ander teamed to beat Aikens and Grace 8-2 on Friday, beat Barabash and Palmiotto of FSC 8-4 Saturday, but lost to Lundberg and Comings 9-8(8) on Sunday. Maxwell and Corwin lost to Barabash and Palmiotto 9-8(7) on Friday and fell to Lundberg and Comings 8-2 Saturday.
Rollins will be back in action Sept. 27-30 at the USTA/ITA South Region Championship in Lakeland.
