LAKELAND, Fla. (September 27, 2012) - Two Tars advanced to the round of 16 after the first day of the ITA South Region Championships, hosted by Florida Southern Thursday.

Freshman Ashley Loft earned a bye through the first round and downed Palm Beach Atlantic's Vilja Vahatalo 6-0, 6-2 in the second. She will face Lynn University's Val Confalonieri in the round of 16. Ashley Rosenberg advanced with a bye but fell in the second 6-3, 7-4 to Adrianna Daszkiewicz.

Elissa Decampli is also still alive in the main draw, defeating Valdosta State's Michelle Fischer 6-1, 2-0 in the second after a bye in the first. In the round of 16, she will face Florida Southern's Magda Riutort. Also in first round action, Mariana Salvador fell to Valdosta's Laura Ubeda 6-3, 6-4 in round one.

In doubles action, Rosenberg and Decampli advanced with an 8-5 victory over Vicky Baca and Ntalia Trotter (PBA) before falling in the round of 16 to Nova's Charlotte Cote and Alex Johansson.

Lisa Loft and sister Ashley were defeated in the second round by West Florida's Mariana Sonnervig and Luiza Sonnervig 8-4 after a bye in the first.

The Tars will continue play at the ITA South Region Championship through Sunday in Lakeland, Fla.
