The 2012 Florida Blue Sunshine State Conference Women's Soccer Tournament was decided in penalty kicks, as top-seed Rollins and second-seeded Tampa were tied at 1-1 following 110 minutes of play.  In the end, UT prevailed in a penalty kick shootout to take their third straight tournament title.

The host Tars seized the early momentum, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Brenna McKee in the 12th minute. Ali Schrader assisted the goal for Rollins.

The Spartans would even the count at 1-1 behind the leg of senior Courtney Peffley early in the second half. Lauren Moore and Gabby Russo were each credited with an assist as the ball was played to Peffley at the top of the box, who converted at 55:03.

Neither team was able to score the remainder of the second half, or in either overtime period, forcing a shootout that consisted of five opportunities for each team.

Both teams began the shootout with unsuccessful attempts, as both Rollins keeper Mary Spring and UT keeper Kori Butterfield made saves.  Tampa's next four attempts found the net, with Cina Salemi, Beate Jaeckel, Cici Gonzalez, and Jess Frank converting their PK strikes to give the Spartans the sixth tournament crown in team history.

Butterfield turned in a masterful performance in goal for UT, turning away six shots by the Tars. She was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.  Joining her on the all-tournament team were: Tampa's Courtney Peffley, Lauren Moore, and Gabby Russo; Rollins' Brenna McKee, Courtney Reddig, Anita Cox, and Ali Schrader; Eckerd's Morgan Crescent; Florida Southern's Erin Moseley; and Lynn's Kelsey Butler.

Tampa will next be in action on Nov. 9-11 at the NCAA South Regional. Pairings and sites will be announced Monday as a total of six teams from the South Region will compete at two different sites.
