WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 5, 2013) - Rollins set the tone with a decisive doubles performance as the sixth-ranked Tars cruised to an 8-1 win over 22nd-ranked Florida Southern on Tuesday.
Rollins moves to 1-1 on the year and 1-0 in Sunshine State Conference play. FSC falls to 2-1, 0-1 SSC.
In the top-flight doubles match, Will Kwok and Robin Marchione teamed to upset regionally seventh-ranked Emanuel Luber and Benoit Paradis 8-4. Jason Alabaster and Jacobo Herrero downed Nathan Leavitt and Vladimir Barabash 8-2 at No. 2 while Adrian Di Felice and Cooper Maxwell took Carl Lundberg and Charles Garneau by the same 8-2 score in the No. 3 match.
At No. 2 singles, 36th-ranked Malte Christesen downed Paradis 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 while Marchione remained unbeaten on the year, taking Leavitt 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3.
Herrero was a 6-4, 6-2 winner past Barabash in the No. 4 match, Di Felice beat Robbie Palmiotto 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 and Alabaster scored a 6-4, 7-5 win over Lundberg at No. 6.
Rollins next faces the toughest in-conference road trip in the nation, traveling to No. 3 Lynn on Saturday, Feb. 9 and No. 4 Barry on Sunday, Feb. 10. Both matches are slated to begin at 10 a.m.
