LAJOLLA, Calif. (March 3, 2013) - The No. 19 Tars traveled out west on Sunday morning to open competition in the UCSD Invite, defeating No. 27 UC San Diego, 7-2.

Rollins fell behind by a point early, dropping No. 2 doubles before winning the next seven matches to secure the victory.

After the duo of Elissa DeCampli and Ashley Rosenberg fell to Paula Chou and Jacquelyn Davis 8-2, the Tars picked up their first point when Carli Davis and Mariana Salvador defeated Melina Chi and Tara Vanooteghem 8-4 in No. 3 doubles.

Sisters Lisa Loft and Ashley Loft followed with a win in the No. 1 doubles slot, defeating Melissa Breisacher and Kyra Scott, 8-6.

Decampli then defeated Breisacher 6-1, 6-2 in No.1 singles followed by wins by Callie Whitlock (No. 6), Ashley Loft (No. 3), Davis (No. 4), and Salvador (No. 5). Loft's win in the No. 3 spot clinched the match for the Tars.

With the score 7-1 after eight matches, UCSD picked up a point when Scott defeated Rosenberg 6-2, 4-6, 10-2 in a closely contested match in the No. 2 singles slot.

Rollins will continue play in the UCSD Invite on Tuesday, Mar. 5 against California State University. Play is set to begin at 1:30 p.m.
