WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 21, 2013) – Hampered by the graduation of its top two scorers from last season, Rollins was picked fourth in the Sunshine State Conference Preaseason Poll, it as released by Commissioner Jay Jones on Wednesday.

Florida Southern picked up seven first place votes and 63 points to enter the year as the preseason favorite. Florida Tech came in second with 53 points and the other two first place nods. Saint Leo (46) was third, followed the Tars (44) and Eckerd (31).

Rollins tied for fourth in the final standings last year with a 19-11 overall record and 9-7 mark in conference. The Tars sprinted off to a hot start, going 15-4 heading into the final month of the season. They then stumbled down the stretch, but righted the ship when it counted and advanced to the SSC Tournament Championship game against FSC, falling 72-66.

The Tars body of work during the season earned them a third NCAA Tournament bid in four years. In the first round, Rollins dropped a defensive battle to Saint Leo, 59-53.

Starters Mitch Woods and Jeff Dirkin are back for head coach Tom Klusman as are forwards Adam Allen and Chris Uhle. Two freshman and two Division I transfers will bolster the roster this season and gives Rollins much needed depth.

The Tars are on the road to start the season, traveling to Las Vegas to face Washburn and St. Mary’s. The home opener is slated for Nov. 12 against Palm Beach Atlantic at 7 p.m.

Fans can follow the Tars all season long on the Tars Sports Network at and locally on 91.5 FM WPRK.
