WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 24, 2013) – Rollins men’s and women’s swim teams can now put weeks of grueling preseason behind them as the Tars open up the season Saturday, Oct. 26 against Saint Leo.
Competition is slated to get underway at 1 p.m. at the Alfond Pool.
The Tars women are coming off a 6-4 dual meet record a year ago and fifth-place finish at the Sunshine State Conference Championship.
Audrey Kula made an immediate impact in her first collegiate season. She was part of eight school records, including four in individual events. The Virginia native won the SSC 100-yard butterfly in record setting fashion and qualified for the NCAA Division II Championship in three events, the first woman in program history to do so.
At the national championship, Kula was fifth in the 200-yard butterfly and became Rollins’ first All-America swimmer. She also added a 13th place finish in the 100-yard butterfly and 20th in the 100-yard freestyle.
Grace Alexander is also a top returner for the Tars and is one of the top distance swimmers in the SSC. The senior will look to build on a fantastic meet at the conference championship where she set three new school records.
The Tars men return veterans Brian Sanborn, Scott Barbee, and Dan Mazur who will all look to lead the team to the top of the SSC.
Sanborn is the 400-yard IM record holder while returners David Relihan and Taylor Wright were part of the Tars record setting 200-yard freestyle relay team.
In dual meet action last year, the men went 1-8 and finished sixth at the SSC Championships.
