After West Florida took the series from the Tars two games to one, the Tars look to bounce back as they take on Bentley and Southern Connecticut this weekend. Rollins opens up the weekend when they square up against Bentley on Friday, February 17, followed by Southern Conn on Saturday before matching up against Bentley against to end the weekend.

In their last game, the Tars lost a thrilling 20-15 game against the Argonauts, scoring 15 runs on just 14 hits. The Falcons of Bentley look to earn their first win of the season after being swept in all three games by the University of Tampa two weeks ago. Southern Connecticut opens their 2017 season with a doubleheader against Bentley and Rollins this Saturday.


Mike Purcell leads the Tars offense with a batting average of .440. He is followed by Christopher Corbett at .333, and Philip Burket at .320. Corbett has also hit two bombs already this season, while Brian Brooker has added one. For the Tars, 10 different pitchers have seen time on the mound. Brad Case leads the Tars with two wins, and Joey Vecchione has a team best three saves. Brian Auerbach leads the Tars pitching staff in strikeouts, with 13 punch-outs on the year.    


Leading the way for the Falcons is senior Justin Ashworth who this season is batting .333 with four hits. Both Nick Neshe and Ryan Berardino have tallied a RBI for the Falcons. On the mound, Jack Burke and Bill Sullivan lead the team with two strikeouts apiece.    


This weekend is where the Southern Connecticut Owls will kick off their 2017 season. They open with a double header of games, first playing Bentley University at 11 a.m., then Rollins College at 3 p.m. Last season the Owls finished with an overall record of 16-25-1, just missing the Northeast 10 baseball tournament championships. The key returners for the Owls are senior Ethan Joyce who started 32 games last season and batted .288 with two homeruns. Redshirt sophomore Nick Lamberti started in 41 games and batted .280 on the season. On the mound, the Owls return righty Brandon Rentas, who went 4-4 last season with a 2.93 ERA.


Mike Purcell has reached base safely in each of the six games the Tars have played in the 2017 season.

In their last meeting, Rollins took the series against Bentley 2-1, including a 20-1 victory over the Falcons in the final game

The last meeting between Rollins and Southern Connecticut was in 1994, and the Tars came out on top 15-6


The Tars will return to Winter Park for more action Friday, February 24, at 6:00pm. They will take the field against SSC provisional member Embry-Riddle, first on Friday, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday.
