FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (April 7, 2017) – Rollins failed to get on the scoreboard in the opener of their three game series at Nova Southeastern, falling to the Sharks by a score of 2-0.  With the loss the Tars fall to 23-19 on the year and 5-8 in Sunshine State Conference action.  Nova Southeastern improves to 21-19 on the season and 9-7 in conference play.

Neither team hit the ball exceptionally well.  Rollins tallied no runs on four hits, but did commit a pair of errors, while the Sharks recorded their two runs on just two hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
·      The Sharks got on the board first in the bottom of the third on a bizarre play.  With one out and runners on second and third Lexie Storrer popped up to second base.  Both runners advanced, but the Tars tagged second base and it was ruled that the runner had left early.  After lengthy discussions, however, it was ruled that, despite the inning ending, the run that scored still counted and the Shark found themselves with a 1-0 lead.
·      An error came back to haunt Rollins, as Nova Southeastern extended their advantage to 2-0 in the fifth, Erica Winter scoring on a throwing error by the Tars.
·      Rollins out-hit Nova Southeastern tallying four base knocks against the Sharks two; but the Tars committed a pair of errors, and both the Sharks runs were unearned.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS:
·      Chelsea Reed (CF) – 1-3, SB
·      Erica Winter (DP) – 1-2, 1 Run
·      Grace Street – L, CG, 2 Hits, 2 Runs, 0 Earned Runs, 6 SO
·      Lexie Storrer – W, CG, 4 Hits, 0 Runs, 7 SO

NOTES:
·      Chelsea Reed tallied one of the Tars four hits on the night, giving her 184 for her career, as she is just 16 away from becoming the sixth Tar to reach 200 hits.
·      The two hits surrendered by Grace Street were a season low for the sophomore, who has now appeared in 24 games for Rollins
·      The Tars are now 33-10 all-time against the Nova Southeastern Sharks
·      Michelle Frew moves to 764-320-1 in her 22nd season at the helm of the Rollins softball program.
