ALBANY, Ga.(February 22,2009)-The Rollins softball team completed its four game road trip as they took down Albany St. 9-1 and 9-0 in five innings, Sunday afternoon.

In game one sophomore outfielder Monica Meadows led the way for the Tars as she went 2 for 3 with three RBI’s on the day. Missy Thogmartin also collected two hits on three at bats for the Tars. The bats came alive for the Tars after falling short against Georgia Southwestern.
Rollins started out the first inning strong as they collected seven runs in the first inning alone. Christine Roser continued her hot hitting as she reached on a single in the first inning. Thogmartin would follow with a single of her own and later Jamie Rausch would walk. This would load the bases for the Tars. Roser scored the first run of the game on a pass ball by Albany St. The Tars would go on to score six more runs all of which were unearned as there were two outs in the inning when Roser reached first base.

The second inning saw the Tars tack on one more run as Christine Roser walked and moved to second on a Missy Thogmartin single. Roser then took third on a sacrifice fly by Jamie Rausch. Roser eventually scored with a groundout by Amber Pederson. After the second inning the Tars were in control 8-0.
Nicole Anderson won her fifth game of the season as she continues to be undefeated. Anderson struck out 11 for the game and now stands at 52 for the season. The only blemish on the scoreboard for Anderson was the home run allowed in the fifth inning to Johnson as she took the offering from Anderson over the left field fence.

The Tars came back in the fifth to score another run to give them an eight run lead. Kaycie Bevis came in for the pinch hit and hit a single and took second base on the throw. Molly Rooney then came up and singled moving Bevis over to third. The inning also saw Vanessa Volkema pinch hit and hit a sacrifice fly to score Bevis. The inning would end with the Tars up eight and that would prove to be enough to finish the Lady Rams off in five innings.
The second game saw the Tars continue the scoring as Rollins would score at least one run in each of the five innings played. The first inning saw the Tars jump out quickly to a 2-0 lead as Monica Meadows reached on a single. After Rachel Almengual lined out, Christine Roser was due up next. Roser took the offering deep and over the left field wall scoring Meadows and giving the Tars the lead.

In the second inning Rollins posted another run on the board as Rachael Foster reached on a single and moved to second on the throw. Foster then moved to third on the fielder’s choice and then scored on a pass ball by Albany St.

The third inning saw the Tars post one more run as Christine Roser reached on a single to right field. Albany St. then gave up a pass ball to move Roser to second, which put Roser in scoring position. Jamie Rausch would fly out to right field advancing Roser to third. Amber Pederson was due up next as she hit an RBI single up the middle.

After the third inning the Tars were in control as they led the Lady Rams by a score of 4-0. Rachael Foster only allowed two hits to Albany St. and recorded 11 strikeouts for the game. Foster moved to 4-1 on the season and has only allowed the opponents to hit .145 off her, while dropping her ERA to 0.66. On the season Foster has tallied 49 strikeouts in 32 innings of work.

Rollins scored 4 more runs in the fourth inning to build the lead to 8-0 on Albany St. Rachel Almengual and Missy Thogmartin both hit doubles in the inning to bring home three runs. Thogmartin moved over to third on the throw on her double and would later score on a pass ball.

The fifth inning saw the Tars post one more run as Molly Rooney started the inning off with a single through the right side. Vanessa Volkema then reached on an error sending Rooney to second with Kaycie Bevis up next. Bevis reached on a fielder’s choice, which saw Volkema out at second, but not before Rooney advanced to third. Rooney came around to score on another pass ball by Albany St., thus finishing the scoring for the Tars.

Albany St. would come up in the bottom half of the inning, but could not put anything on the board. The game would end in five innings and the Tars improved to 10-1 this season.

The Tars will travel to Saint Leo for a three game set as conference play opens up with Saint Leo on Friday and Saturday. Game times are slated for 7 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday. Fans be sure to check RollinsSports.com for all the latest news and information.
