WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 16, 2017) – The Tars shut out the Lions of Arkansas-Fort Smith to collect their first win of the 2017 season.  Rollins moves to 1-1 on the year with the victory, while the Lions fall to 0-1 after their opener.

Carlye Goldman and Fabiana Vitanza played out of the first doubles position for the second time this season, and captured an 8-5 win.  Senior, Shannon Etten, and freshman, Alexandra Borg dominated Shaun Williams and Andrea Stapper 8-2.  To close out the Tars sweep of the doubles matches Teresa Kaiser and Marie Debruyn paired up for the first time this season to tally an 8-3 win.

Every Tar won their singles match in straight sets, and they were rarely challenged throughout.  Vitanza, playing out of the one spot controlled the Lion’s Britanney McCasin 6-0, 6-2.  Etten also lost only a pair of games, defeating Lea Cizeron 6-2, 6-0.  Goldman, who is ranked No. 20 in the south region, cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory.  Borg picked up her first dual match singles victory, 6-2, 6-4, over junior Lindsy Pearce. Kaiser won her second singles match of the year, easily dispatching Williams 6-2, 6-2.  Debruyn picked up her first win in her first match of 2017, besting Tristen Brunson 6-3, 7-5.

The Tars open SSC play this weekend when they host No. 6 Barry to Winter Park.  The match is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
