WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 14, 2017) – The seventh-ranked Rollins women’s lacrosse team won their sixth-straight game thanks to a total team effort, defeating Seton Hill by a final score of 9-7 on Tuesday evening at Barker Family Stadium and Cahall-Sandspur Field.
The win advances the Tars to an overall mark of 7-2 on the season, while the Griffins drop to 2-3.
Sophomore Kallie German led the way with three goals and one assist for four points on the night. Paige Brock and Brittany Eveler notched two goals apiece, while Maggie Dougherty matched them in overall points with a goal and an assist. Megan Cury rounded out the Tars’ scoring efforts with one goal of her own. Seven different Tars earned a team high two ground balls apiece, while three different Tars won a team high two draw controls. Four different Tars caused two turnovers apiece on the day. In goal, Malorie Olin earned two ground balls while making seven saves on 16 shots faced.
Seton Hill was led in scoring by Christine Palmeri with a hat trick on the day, followed by Katelyn Cressman with two goals, and Keagan Pontious and Mackenzie Kilduff with one apiece. Charlotte Cunningham dished out the team’s two assists on the day. Meghan Hollar and Nicole Nath both picked up a game high three ground balls, while Pontious led the game in draw controls with three. Nath blasted the Tars on defense, causing six turnovers on the night.
HIGHLIGHTS AND HALF ANALYSIS
First Half l The Griffins found the back of the net first on a free position shot by Palmeri at the 24:12 makr, but Rollins answered back with five straight to take a 5-1 lead with 7:21 to go before the half. Palmeri broke the run with two straight to cut Seton Hill’s deficit to two at the half, 5-3, closing out the first 30 minutes of action.
Second Half l Rollins jumped into the second period an dscored three straight in less than five minutes, taking an 8-3 lead with 25:49 on the clock. Seton Hill answered back with two of their own, pulling to within three, 8-5, with 18:53 to go, but the Tars broke the run with an unassisted goal by Eveler at the 11:34 mark to take a 9-5 lead. The Griffins slowly tried to whittle away at the Tars’ lead, playing a chess match of a game to keep the Tars off the board while they netted two more, setting the score at 9-7 with 6:57 to go. However, an equally smart Rollins squad stuck to it on all ends of the field to hold Seton Hill to just seven goals on the day to secure the win.
