WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 18, 2017) – The Tars and the Saint Leo Lions split their Saturday double-header, giving Saint Leo the series win, while the Tars won the final game of the set to avoid the sweep.  The Lions took game one in a tight contest, defeating Rollins 4-2.  The Tars recovered in game two to coast home with a comfortable 6-1 advantage.  Rollins moves to 17-10 on the year, and 2-4 in Sunshine State Conference action.  Saint Leo is now 14-11 on the year, and also sit at 2-4 in the SSC.

The Tars had a lead in game one, but a big seventh frame from the Lions earned them the victory.  In game two it was the Tars who trailed through three innings, but Rollins was able to put up crooked numbers to get, and hold, their lead.

Game One
·      The Lions scored in the top of the first inning, but Rollins equalized in the bottom of the frame, Peter Nicoletto coming home on a Nick Breen single.
·      The Tars pulled in front when a two out single by Brian Brooker plated Breen, making the score 2-1.
·      Saint Leo took the lead for good with a three spot in the seventh.  The Lions sent all nine players to bat in the frame.

Game Two
·      The Tars chased a plethora of Lions’ pitchers, forcing Saint Leo to use seven arms in the game.
·      Saint Leo got on the board first, sending a run across the plate in the top of the third, but Rollins would respond with a pair of scores in the fourth.  Sam LaFontaine lifted a two run shot over the right field wall, scoring Brian Brooker.
·      The Tars padded their lead with a run in the sixth, Billy Lamm scoring a RBI single by Nick Breen.
·      Brian Auerbach made it seven strong innings, allowing the Lions to only scatter four hits, giving up just the one run.
·      The Tars iced the game away in the seventh putting a three spot on the board.  Peter Nicoletto got Rollins started in the frame with a double.  Nick Santucci tallied an RBI single and later scored on a Lion’s error.  Lamm recorded an RBI double in the frame.

·      Blake Bodin – L, 1.2 IP, 4 Hits, 2 Runs, 1 SO

·      Sam LaFontaine’s game two home run was the freshman infielder’s first long ball as a Tar.
·      Peter Nicoletto scored twice on the day, adding to his team leading total of 27 runs scored, the centerfielder’s game two double also gave him a team leading 18 extra base hits on the year, the Fort Lauderdale native also leads the Tars with 14 stolen bases after two in today’s twin bill.
·      Rollins completes a five game set with Saint Leo, going 2-3 against the Lions.  Only the three most recent games, played in Winter Park, count toward the SSC standings.
·      Whit Drennan made his eighth appearance out of the bullpen for the Tars, the Sophomore has yet to give up an earned run in 14.1 inning of relief work this season. 

The Tars return to action next Friday, March 24, when they are set to open a three game series against the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears.  First pitch of game one is scheduled for 5 p.m.
