WINTER PARK, Fla. (May 24, 2011) - Four Tars were named to the 2011 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Scholar Athlete list, it was announced Tuesday. Emily Collins, Molly Broome, Ashley Franklin, and Monica Mayer were among the 459 recipients honored on the list.
Four-year rower Emily Collins collected her third consecutive honor. The coxswain was an integral part of the Rollins women's rowing crew. She participated in all eight spring events, leading the varsity four and eight to multiple silver medals. Collins majored in environmental studies.
Ashley Franklin, majoring in chemistry, garners her second CRCA Scholar Athlete award, while Molly Broome (biology) and Monica Mayer (English) receive their first CRCA Scholar Athlete honor of their collegiate careers. Broome and Franklin participated in the varsity four and eight boats, while Franklin competed in varsity eight.
To be a recipient of the CRCA Scholar Athlete award, nominees had to meet multiple requirements and had to have had a 3.5 cumulative grade point average for the current competition year.
