Winter Park, Fla. (March 5, 2017) – The Varsity 4 (line-up) and Novice 4 (line-up) both won gold for the Rollins Women’s Rowing Team at the Metro Cup Saturday. The Novice 4 were first out of the gate and lead the field from start to finish. This boat put together a good race and they have been excited to see what they were capable of since their fall race. They set a good tone for their team which they all worked hard to follow. Very soon after, the Women’s Varsity 4 started and their race was neck and neck from start to finish. The Tars hit the 500m buoy which luckily did not disrupt their momentum too much. They fought to regain their composure and were just about a half a boat down through the middle 1000m. As Rollins crossed the 1500m mark and turned for home they made a huge surge to put their bow ball ahead of UCF and from there it was a see saw battle. The Tars were able to hold on and won by .6 seconds over UCF. The Novice 8 had a good row today against crews other than Rollins. They posted their best time to date in not the best conditions. With a young crew like this, it is great to finally line up against other crews and see what they have been working for. The Varsity 8 had a solid row and had good parts to their race. It is still early and they look on building on the race today. Rollins also rowed the JV 8 today finishing second behind UCF’s JV8. It is great for the program to be able to field three eights of women.

The Women’s Rowing Team will be back on Lake Maitland next Saturday for the Rollins Invitational where they will line up against Villanova, Duquesne, and Assumption. Race time begins at 8am.
