 Mike Howard

After spending two seasons on the mound for the Tars, Mike Howard shares his knowledge and experience with the team as he enters his second season as the Tars baseball graduate assistant. Howard will also head up the Tars' JV baseball team beginning in 2014.

2012 (Senior): Howard was a versatile pitcher for the Tars as he made 17 appearances for the Blue and Gold, including six starts...wrapped up his collegiate career with a 3.24 ERA in his final season and a 4-3 record...tossed the fifth most innings on the Tars pitching staff with 50.0 while striking out 40 batters, which was fourth-best...threw in one combined shutout and picked up a pair of saves...held opponents to a .250 batting average at the plate...tossed a career-high 8.0 innings against Wayne State (3/8) during the 64th Annual Rollins College Baseball Week event en route to a 14-3 victory...fanned a season-high six against Barry (4/13) in 2.2 innings of work, allowing just one earned run...earned a start in his first five appearances...ranked 21st in the Rollins all-time record books in strikeouts per nine innings (6.73)...ranks 14th in the Sunshine State Conference in ERA and ties for 14th in opposing batting average and games finished (7).

2011 (Junior):  The UConn-Avery Point transfer made his way out of the bullpen to start in his final nine appearances on the bump...finished his first season at Rollins with a team-best 4.57 ERA, which ranks 19th in the Sunshine State Conference...fanned a season-high 10 batters in seven innings of work in his first start of the season against St. Anselm (3/4)...picked up his lone save against Bentley (2/19) in 3 1/3 innings in relief...second on the team in innings pitched with 61.0 and finished with a 3-5 mark...struck out 43 batters and gave up 28 walks...earned 2011 Team MVP honors...named to the SSC Commissioner's Spring Honor Roll and the Spring Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

Prior to Rollins (UConn-Avery Point):  As a freshman, threw 50 1/3 innings on the mound...fanned 57 batters and walked only 18...posted a 3.04 ERA and a 6-2 record...averaged 1.13 strikeouts per game.

High School:  Played his prep career at Brien McMahon High School where he helped lead the Senators to postseason play in his last three seasons...a position player and pitcher for McMahon High School.

Personal:  Born Mike William Howard, Sept. 24, 1989 in Norwalk, Conn. to Jannine and Bill Howard...two sisters LeeAnn and Stephanie...father Bill played football at Lehigh and sister Stephanie played softball at Franklin Pierce...majoring in sociology.
