MAITLAND, Fla. (March 13, 2012) - The women's novice 4 posted the big win for the Tars on the waters of Lake Maitland on Saturday at Rollins' Spring Break Race.

The ladies (Kali DeBerry, Kelsey Gunderson, Haddie DeHart, Alexia George, Mary-Ellen Garner) topped the day with the huge win over two Villanova boats and captured the win by 14 seconds.  It was a close race from the get-go as the novice 4 steadily increased the gap throughout the race.  It was the first win for the five first-time rowers who picked up the sport in the fall.

Rollins finished with a time of 7:32.1 in the varsity 8 (Kim Gossard, Seonag Doherty, Molly Kallins, Katy Blaszyk-Perry, Katy Hoyer, Michelle Assaly, Kelsey Gunderson, Andrea Micci, Almaraz) while the novice 4 joined Assaly, Almaraz, Micci, and Vanessa Guevara in the 8 and posted a time of 7:43.9.

The Tars will continue their tough schedule this Saturday at the Rollins Invitational against Wesleyan, Army and Embry-Riddle.  This will be the women's last home race and will have three weeks before their state championship in Sarasota, Fla. on April 13-14.  For more information on women's crew, check out the Tars Sports Network at
