WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 17, 2012)- The Rollins men's lacrosse team was able to score late in the fourth quarter to preserve their win against Colorado Mesa, 9-7, Saturday afternoon. Rollins improves to 3-7 on the season, while Colorado Mesa falls to 3-2.
The first two quarters saw both offenses stifled by the opposing defense with neither team able to open up a large lead. After a pair of attacks and goals the Mavericks settled down and outscored the Tars by one goal in the second quarter to hold a one goal lead at halftime.
After the halftime break the Tars kicked the offense into another gear as Rollins built momentum early on in the second half of the game. The third quarter saw Rollins score four goals, while Colorado Mesa tallied a trio of their own to enter the fourth quarter six.
The Tars exploited the Mavericks and posted three goals on the visitors, while the defense clamped down and only allowed one goal. The timely scoring and stingy defense late preserved the win for Rollins.
Will Diamond, Billy Pray and Taylor White provided the spark to the offense as the trio tallied two goals apiece. Oliver Moore, Jack Dever and Stephen DeFlumeri all tallied one goal apiece to round out the scoring.
Andrew Sheering came up big for the Tars as the net minder racked up 10 saves on the evening and was able to start the attack going the other way all afternoon.
Rollins will hit the road for a pair of games against Merrimack and LeMoyne starting March 22.
