BRADENTON, Fla. (April 17, 2012) - A field comprised of the nation's top teams couldn't tame a very tough track Tuesday with Rollins finishing sixth at the 2012 Florida Blue Sunshine State Conference Championships.
The Tars turned in scores of 328-322 on Monday and struggled to a 344 in Thursday's final round. Birdies were scarce for all 45 players with no team shooting better than 310 Tuesday.
Nova Southeastern won the team championship, hanging scores of 326-308-311 (945) The Sharks earned a one-shot win over Lynn (946) and were nine better than third-place Florida Southern.
Freshman Kayla Sciupider fought through a hip injury and led Rollins with a seventh place finish. She shot 82-74 on Monday to firmly sit in the top-10 and came back with a 79 Tuesday to total 235 strokes. She was seven over at the turn and went through the back-nine even par.
Elin Marcsdottir tied for 18th place with 247 strokes. She carded scores of 83-79-85 in the event. Fabia Rothenfluh tied for 25th place, shooting rounds of 78-87-89 and totaling 254 strokes. Kelly Krusoe was alone in 32nd after scores of 91-82-91 (264).
Jennifer So did not play in the final round and was 44th with scores of 85-87 on Monday.
Lilliana Camisa of NSU won the individual title with 228 strokes (78-76-74). Teammate Daniela Ortiz was second with a score of 231.
The University of Tampa hosted the 2012 Florida Blue SSC Championship at The Concession in Bradenton, a Jack Nicklaus and Tony Jacklin designed, par 72 course that totals 7,474 yards.
Rollins next plays in the NCAA Division II Super Regional May 6-8 in Pensacola, Fla.
