WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 13, 2011) - For the second time in a week, Tampa broke Rollins' hearts as the 11th-ranked Tars were bounced from the NCAA Division II South Region Tournament by the 19th-ranked Spartans, 2-0 on Sunday.
Rollins' season ends with a record of 15-3-2 while UT (15-5-2) advances to the third round of the NCAA Tournament where they will play Lynn, who upset top-seeded Saint Leo in the other half of the bracket.
The first half was largely contested in the midfield with Rollins rattling off five shots, two on goal, while holding the Spartans to just two wide looks.
Brittan Spence scored in the 57th minute for UT as Shannon Walisch lofted a free kick into the box that found her teammate's head. The Spartans got another tally in the 70th minute to make the score 2-0. Marta Bertsos sent in a corner kick from the right side that was headed into Lauren Moore for the score.
Rollins upped the tempo late, but UT keeper Emelie Karstrom saved all four shots on frame during the period.
Michelle Dillingham played all 90 minutes between the posts for Rollins, earning a pair of saves, including a diving punch in the 75th minute. Karstrom ended the contest with six stops.
