WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 20, 2012) - The Rollins women's soccer team has clinched the Sunshine State Conference regular season title for the third time in program history and first since 2009.
The Tars clinched the outright title for the reason that entering Saturday, the Tars sat in first place in the SSC standings with 18 points, two points ahead of second place Tampa, the only team within striking distance of Rollins.
While Rollins was taking care of Nova SE, 3-0, the Spartans played to a draw with Florida Southern in their final SSC game of the regular season, ending their SSC slate with 17 points, one behind the Tars.
Rollins will now serve as host of the SSC Tournament semifinals and finals Nov. 2-4 as the top seed.
"We are so proud to be the 2012 SSC champions," Head Coach Alicia Milyak Schuck said when she got wind of the news.
"All of the conference games were extremely competitive and we had to battle for every point we obtained because of the impressive performances the other SSC teams put forth in the games."
"I'm appreciative of our senior leadership because it has been a catalyst this season. Ali Schrader, Whitney Rohrer, and Anita Cox have been outstanding with their performances on the field. They set high expectations of themselves and their teammates and this has aided in our teams progress throughout the SSC games."
She went on to add, "Assistant coaches Andy Varns and Jessica Deese along with goalkeeper coach Joe Raymond have spent countless hours coaching the team and their input and effort were important pieces to winning the regular season championship."
The Tars finish up their regular season Saturday, Oct. 27th when they host Florida Southern. Fans can follow along with all the action live on the Tars sports network at RollinsSports.com.
