FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (October 12, 2011) - Fourth-ranked Rollins set the tone with a goal in the first 16 seconds and beat Nova Southeastern 2-1 on Wednesday evening.
Rafa Faria tallied a goal and assist for Rollins (10-1, 4-1) with Nick Sowers scoring the second goal and Justin Clark recording a helper.
Keneil Baker played all 90 minutes between the posts, racking up five saves and surrendering the one NSU (3-8-1, 1-5-0 SSC) tally.
Faria scored the first goal, intercepting a Sharks pass in the midfield and taking a 30-yard strike past the keeper just 16 seconds into the contest.
Rollins controlled much of the first half and made it a 2-0 lead in the 23rd minute. Faria took a possession at the top of the box and found Clark toward the right corner. The senior defender then put on a cross past the keeper right to Sowers for the score.
The Sharks nearly swung momentum their way in the 79th minute as Rygo Morales was one-on-one with Baker and took a strike, but the sophomore stoned the shot and kept the clean sheet alive.
NSU cracked the scoreboard in the 81st minute when a free kick from Halil Tozar found the head of Alvin Quaye for a goal.
Rollins was then able to dig in on the back line the rest of the way and pick up a key Sunshine State Conference victory.
Rollins will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 15 home against Lynn. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. Fans can catch all the action live on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com.
