WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 7, 2011) - For the third-straight season, the Rollins men's soccer team has earned the top-seed and hosting duties for the NCAA Division II Super Region Tournament.
The 18th ranked Tars will meet a familiar foe to start the tournament in fourth-seeded Barry. Rollins defeated the Bucs twice this season, most recently by a 2-1 count in the SSC Tournament championship on Sunday, Nov. 6. Second seed Christian Brothers from the Gulf South Conference and Sunshine State Conference regular season champion Lynn fill out the bracket.
Christian Brothers and Lynn will meet in the first round on Friday, Nov. 11 at 5 p.m. with Rollins and Barry to follow at 8 p.m. The winners will then face off on Sunday, Nov. 13 at 3 p.m. All games will be played at Barker Family Stadium and Cahall-Sandspur Field and video streamed live on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com.
The postseason bid is the Tars' third-straight and is 12th in program history.
Last season, Rollins was the top-seed in the super regional and advanced to the quarterfinals, where they beat Clayton State in a double-overtime thriller. Led by a stifling defense, the Tars rolled past Midwestern State and were able to make it all the way to the NCAA Division II National Championship game before falling to Northern Kentucky, 3-2.
Rollins enters the 2011 tournament with a record of 15-3 and is coming off its third Sunshine State Conference Tournament crown. The Tars have one of the top defenses in the nation, anchored by SSC Defensive Player of the Year Justin Clark. The attack is led by offensive juggernaut, Nick Sowers who was a First Team All-SSC forward selection.
