WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 2, 2012)- After securing the program's highest ranking, the Rollins women's lacrosse team added another tally in the win column against ranked opponents with a 16-5 rout of No.13 Mercyhurst, Friday evening. The win keeps the Tars undefeated on the season with a record of 5-0, while Mercyhurst falls to 0-2.

Rollins started out slow in the first 15 minutes of the game, allowing Mercyhurst to draw even and still in the game. The last nine minutes of the half saw the Tars ignite a 5-1 run to end the half with a 7-2 lead after the opening 30 minutes.

Sophie Townsend notched three of the five goals with Cat Kelley and Sarah Ann Showell also netting a goal to help fuel the run. The defense for the Tars maintained pressure on the Lakers all night, giving them difficult completing passes and holding possession. Elyse De Lisle played a vital role in keeping Mercyhurst off the scoreboard. De Lisle collected nine saves on the evening and held an offense that averaged 13 goals per game to only five.

The Tars made a few adjustments after the break and came out firing, showing the capacity crowd a different team in the second half. Rollins used an 8-1 run in the first 15 minutes of the second half to secure 10 goal lead. After the Tars secured the 10 goal advantage they were able to adjust the pace of the game to their liking and focused on execution of set plays.

Townsend really kept the offense on track, netting four goals on six shots. Caroline Lamere, Chelsea Pinneke, Mo Imel and Ginevra Czech all found the back of the net in the second half, leading to another balanced scoring effort from the Tars. Collectively, Rollins had eight players earn a point in the victory with six tallying multi-point efforts.

Rebecca Himes led the charge for the Lakers, notching three goals of her own and was joined by Anna Legrett and All Keirn, who each tallied a goal of their own. Defensively, the Lakers tried using two goalies to slow down the Tars, but neither Jenny Perkins nor Rebecca Muscella could stop the Tars on offense.

Rollins will continue its home stand when they welcome Notre Dame of Ohio to Winter Park on March 8 at 7 p.m. from Barker Family Stadium at Cahall-Sandspur Field. The Tars will look to keep the undefeated season alive and their quest for the NCAA postseason in their sights.
